Campaigning to end in Maharashtra Saturday evening

Mumbai, May 18 (UNI) Campaigning for final phase of Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra will end Saturday evening.

Canvassing across 13 constituencies of Mumbai, Mumbai Suburban district, Thane, Palghar and North Maharashtra region will come to a halt at 6 pm.

These constituencies are Mumbai South, Mumbai North, Mumbai North West, Mumbai North East, Mumbai North Central, Mumbai South Central, Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, Palghar, Nashik, Dindori (ST) and Dhule will vote on Monday in the fifth phase of the ongoing general elections.

A total of 264 candidates will seeks votes of 2.48 crore eligible electorates at 24,579 polling stations.

Election in 35 constituencies have been completed in earlier four phases on April 19, April 26, May 7 and May 13.

Prominent among candidates in fray in the final day of Maharashtra's polling are Union Minister Piyush Goel (BJP-Mumbai North), Adv Ujwal Nikam (BJP-Mumbai North Central), Union Minister Dr Bharti Pawar (BJP-Dindori), former Union Minister Dr Subhash Bhamre (BJP-Dhule).

Then there is Union Minister Kapil Patil (Bhiwandi), Arvind Sawant (UBT-Mumbai South), Anil Desai (UBT- Mumbai South Central),Varsha Gaikwad (Congress-Mumbai North Central), Rajan Vichare (UBT-Thane), Ravindra Vaikar (Shinde Sena-Mumbai North West) and Shobha Bachav (Congress -Dhule).

The main fights will be seen between NDA led Mahayuti and INDIA bloc led Mahavikas Agadhi.

While Vanchit Bahujan Agadhi candidates, AIMIM and smaller parties also pose challenge in this election.

On the last day of campaigning on Saturday, prominent leaders including Uddhav Thackeary, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, BJP heavyweight leaders among others are organising election rallies and roadshows to woo the voters.



The elections in six Lok Sabha constituencies which fall under Mumbai and Mumbai district suburban district appear tough. In Mumbai North constituency Union Minister and BJP candidate Piyush Goel is contesting against Congress nominee Bhushan Patil.



In Mumbai South, sitting UBT MP Arvind Sawant is facing Yamini Yashwant Jadhav of Shinde Sena.

Ravindra Vaikar (Shinde Sena) is pitted against Amol Kirtikar of UBT in Mumbai North West constituency.



In Mumbai North East BJP's new face Mihir Kotecha faces UBT's Sanjay Dina Patil.





Well known advocate Ujjwal Nikam of BJP faces contest against Congress nominee and former state minister Varsha Gaikwad in Mumbai North Central constituency where AIMIM Ramzan Ali Chaudhary is also in poll arena.



While senior UBT leader Anil Desai is contesting election against Shinde Sena's sitting MP Rahul Shewale in Mumbai South Central constituency.



In Thane, it is Naresh Mhaske, close aide of chief minister, against sitting UBT MP Rajan Vichare.

Dr Srikanth Shinde sitting MP and son of Chief Minister Shinde contesting election again from Kalyan Lok sabha constituency against UBT's low profile candidate Vaishali Darekar Rane.





Union minister and sitting MP Kapil Patil is contesting again from Bhiwandi and is up against NCP -Sharad Pawar Group nominee Suresh Mhatre .



In Palghar, BJP has given ticket to Dr Hemant Vishnu Savra who is facing UBT's Bharthi Kamdi and Hitendra Thakur led Bahujan Vikas Agadhi's nominee Rajesh Patil.



In Nashik constituency, sitting Shinde Sena MP Hemant Godse is recontesting election against UBT's Rajabhau Waje.



MoS Health Dr Bharathi Pawar of BJP contesting election once again from Dindori (ST) constituency against NCP-Sharad Pawar nominee Bhaskar Bhagre.



While in Dhule former union minister and sitting BJP MP Dr Subhash Bhamre is fighting against former state minister and Congress nominee Shobha Bachav.
